Hal Stewart - Bronze Sculpture Artist

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hal Stewart is a construction worker turned artist. He worked in the construction industry for over 30 years before a friend offered to pay to have his first sculpture cast. Without any previous experience or knowledge, and not knowing what he was doing, Hal had the piece cast and immediately sold two pieces. Hal says since he became a sculptor so late in life that he has no time to practice and he must get it right the first time.

Experience gained from working on a ranch, raising and showing horses, and riding in parades have all contributed to his artwork. Indians, cowboys, birds, and cattle are the main themes of this Scottsdale-based artist's sculptures however, he also sculpts wolves and turtles, and is curretnly working on a mermaid for a client in the Caribbean. He is very detailed oriented - every tiny, little details matters. His works invites close inspection.

In order to be authentic, Hal has visited with the Blackfoot Indians of Montana, the Lakota Souix in South Dakota, and recently met with tribal members of the Salt River Pima Nation to secure details for his work. He is very thankful to the Native American peoples for their invaluable help and suggestions.

Even with his busy schedule, he tries to sculpt everyday and he manages to teach sculpting one day per week at a private gated community in Carefree, AZ. He was chosen to be the Artist-In-Residence at The North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park for July 2005.

Hal may have entered the art world late in his life, but he continues to "get it right".
